The iPad 2 was recently released. Let's see if it can live up to it's height!
Apple's CEO Steve Jobs showed off the iPad to on March 2nd 2011. The new iPad 2 includes a complete remake and a thinner design which is 33% thinner than the iPad 1 at 8.8mm compared to the iPad 1's 13.4mm. The new iPad 2 weight is 600g which is lighter than the iPad 1's 680g weight. Not a very noticeable difference actually.
The iPad 2 comes with a dual core 1GHz Apple A5 chip. This means that the Apple iPad 2 has two 1GHz processors.
It also has a front and back facing camera. The front facing camera records VGA resolution video. The back facing camera records 720p video at 30 frames per second and 0.7MP pictures and is the sane camera as the iPod Touch 4G.
Since the iPad 2 gets the front facing camera, it also gets FaceTime and now all the iOS devices from Apple have FaceTime.
Two cameras. And a big hello to FaceTime for iPad.
The iPad 2 also has a new cover from Apple named the "Smart Cover" which attaches to the iPad 2 with magnets, so the iPad 2 has magnets built into its body.
The Smart Cover is made so that it auto-aligns and protects the screen but the body remains uncovered. The purpose Apple made the Smart Cover was to protect the iPad 2 while not comprising the thin and light design of the iPad 2.
When the Smart Cover is put over the iPad 2, it locks itself automatically and unlocks when you lift the Smart Cover unless you have a pass code on.
The Smart Covers also acts as a stand for the iPad 2...
The Smart Covers come in two fabrics, leather & polyurethane with 5 colours in each fabric
|The Smart Cover and iPad 2 were made for each other. Literally. Built-in magnets draw the Smart Cover to iPad for a perfect fit that not only protects, but also wakes up, stands up, and brightens up your iPad. That’s not just smart. It’s genius.|
The iPad 2 also doubles the RAM from 256MB to 512MB resulting in better performance.
Apple also claim that the iPad 2 has 9x better graphics performance than the previous iPad.
