Apple App Store Hits 25 Billion Downloads

The App Store hits 25 billion downloads.

The App Store has hit it's 25th billion app download from the App Store.

The 25 billionth app download, Where’s My Water? Free, was downloaded by Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China. Chungli Fu has received a $10,000 App Store Gift Card as a reward by Apple.

In a press release, Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services said,

We’d like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve this historic milestone of 25 billion apps downloaded. When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or that developers would create such an incredible selection of apps for iOS users.

In the press release, Apple also reported that there are more than 315 million iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices worldwide. They also reported that the Apple Store has about 550,000 apps in 123 countries around the world, with 170,000 apps optimized for the iPad. 

Apple reported that they have paid more than 4 billion dollars to the developers. Overall, Apple has one of the best App Stores in the world allowing users to download apps from 21 categories including Newsstand, games, business, news, sports, health & fitness and travel.

We'll surely hear these figures in the upcoming Apple event, where Apple will be announcing their new iPad 3/HD.
